At LSHTM there is a team dedicated to advising academic staff at the School about how to make their work open access. Open access means that work that is available online, free of charge, and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions. For funded research, an important drive for this is that the public has paid for research, so it should be accessible to the public too. When we help authors make their work open access, we assist them in choosing the appropriate license and these licenses determine the usage of the work. These have a rich array of uses outside of academia too, however, and it is the goal of this workshop to take some time to discover these.
 
The Creative Commons workshop is part of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine’s <A HREF="http://blogs.lshtm.ac.uk/library/2018/09/12/open-access-october/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">open access event series</A> running throughout October. It is intended for everyone and will be a space to explore some of the online resources available under Creative Commons licenses, including designs from <A HREF="https://thenounproject.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Noun Project</A>. Come along to find out about more of these resources, which are introduced in our blog post <A HREF="http://blogs.lshtm.ac.uk/library/2018/08/31/creative-commons-outside-of-academia/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">‘Creative Commons outside of Academia’</A>. We will be providing crafting materials for making embroidered artwork using images from <A HREF="https://thenounproject.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Noun Project</A>. You are welcome to bring along an item of plain clothing, a tote bag, or anything else that could lend itself to customisation. Tea, coffee and fruit will be provided.
