Join us to explore opportunities for  CI Horizon Projects that combine circular economy design principles with data-driven innovation.

How can data and technology support ethical and environmentally sustainable approaches in the creative industries? The Covid19 pandemic has brought global economies to a halt resulting in a global reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and changing working and travel patterns. It has also highlighted and revealed structural inequalities in job security, hitting the creative economy particularly hard. If a green recovery is the just route to take in a post-pandemic creative economy, and the Road to COP26, then how might we use data and technology to ‘leave things better’? [1] Join us for our Creative Informatics Horizon Collider - a conceptual design event bringing together computational and design thinking. Through a series of provocations and questions we will guide you through a design sprint to explore the potential for Horizon Projects that combine <a href="https://www.ellenmacarthurfoundation.org/circular-economy/what-is-the-circular-economy" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">circular economy</a> design principles [2] with data-driven innovation. After the event, attendees will be invited to apply for up to £25,000 to support the development of their Creative Horizon Projects.

How can the creative industries harness data and technology to build products and services which are part of a transparent, circular economy and which allow you to repair, encourage modularity, facilitate reclamation, redeployment or recycling? What can combining circular economy design principles, and data-driven innovation tell us about the future of creativity and collaboration? What are the data-driven tools people will need to build a creative business based on the circular economy principles?This event is open to academics at University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Napier University as well as anyone working in the creative industries in Edinburgh and South East Scotland. It may be of particular interest to those interested in research and development at the intersection of green economy, environmental sustainability, data and technology.References:[1] Thackara, J.
