Creative Teaching CPD: Lineages = Line, Process and Creative Thinking
A hands-on CPD using drawing and printmaking to explore line, identity and place, with joyful, accessible approaches for all learners.
A hands-on CPD session at October Gallery for primary and secondary teachers and art educators, focusing on drawing and printmaking as tools for thinking, exploration and creative confidence.
Working with the amazing Lineages exhibition, a mixed-material group show featuring some artists new to October gallery, the session uses the exhibition as a starting point for practical investigation. Together, we will explore how artists use line, material and form to reflect on people, objects, place and identity, and how these approaches can support accessible creative practice.
The workshop begins with a short collective warm-up to loosen drawing habits, followed by large-scale drawing using graded and expressive line. Line will then be taken into simple 3D forms to explore shadow and abstraction, before translating drawings into a print-based process using kitchen sink lithography. Participants will work from objects, places and photographic source material, supporting personal connections to place, heritage and origin.
The session balances shared making with individual exploration, and closes with group reflection on experimental line as a tool for expression, confidence and inclusive creative learning. The evening also includes time to explore the Lineages exhibition, light refreshments, and space for professional conversation and networking.
