Learn to dye cottons and silks and use free-motion machine embroidery to create beautiful textile artwork.

We are thrilled to bring you this exciting course - Creative Textiles. This session will allow you to explore a range of creative textile processes using dyes, inks, paints, surfaces and stitch. Taking a mixed-media approach, you will be given opportunity and support to explore unusual creative combinations to create exciting textile artwork.


In this session you will:

1. Explore the use of dyes, inks and paints to create background surfaces. Taking an experimental approach to create exciting backgrounds to work on later in the session

2. Experiment with free-motion embroidery - learn how to use a machine in free-motion mode to create simple linear stitch drawings from your own artwork or using some of our template images

3. Create a plan for your piece, with the option of exploring repeating pattern and adding paint base layers

4. Stitch your artwork to your background using free-motion embroidery and optional hand embroidery

Plenty of source images and inspiration - although feel free to bring your own images to work from (around 7 inch diamtere max)

Holly will provide you with support and guidance throughout – even if you have never done anything like this before, you will love the experimental approach. Holly has been teaching for over 15 years and can help you to create an artwork to be proud of. Session run by Thread and Press CIC, a Community Interest Company.


Please note, parking at this venue is on-street. This is an adult course. No experience required.

What is provided:

- Full tuition.

-Hot drinks

- After session support via email if required.

- Use of all equipment required.

- Fabrics, threads and all other materials.

- Source images can be provided (although feel free to bring your own, 7 inch diameter max).
