Creative Textiles 8-week Workshop Series

What are the threads that weave through our lives and connect us to the past?

Join us to learn creative textiles techniques, and connect to the histories of the women+ who worked in our Embroidery Mill building in the past. We'll spend 8-weeks together creating collaborative textile art, which will be displayed in an exhibition in Renfrewshire early 2027.

IS IT FOR ME?

This series is perfect for beginners and anyone with textiles experience. All you need is yourself. Materials will be provided.

The sessions will be facilitated by textile artist Deirdre Nelson and supported by a Kairos staff member.

THEN WHAT?

This workshop series will feed into a wider heritage project, Fierce Women+, so expect opportunities to be part of an exhibition in early 2027 and get involved in future creative workshops as part of the project!

THE PRATICAL STUFF

  • Booking: Book on Eventbrite. This series is free thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Contact info@kairoswomen.org if you need further information or book a Welcome Meeting with a member of the team before you start.

  • Who can come: our organisation has been designed by and for women+ in Renfrewshire. We will take a small number of bookings from those outside of Renfrewshire but please get in touch with us before booking.

  • Food and drinks: We have snacks & hot drinks available for free, including herbal teas, vegan and gluten-free options. Please speak to a staff member if you are peckish, we always have sandwich ingredients in.

  • Pantry & Free Shop: In our corridor, grab something from the free shop – clothes, toiletries, household items. Or why not see what you can find in the pantry? Lots of items to fill your cupboards.

  • Children: You are welcome to bring children to these sessions. All children must be supervised by a parent/caregiver. We have a designated kids’ corner in the pink room, right next to the room the group will be in.

  • Transport: We are a 12-minute walk from Paisley Gilmour Station and the main bus routes. There is a large car park in front of the building. We will need your registration number on arrival when you sign in for free parking.

  • Note on the space: We are based in the Embroidery Mill, directly across from Morrisons car park and our entrance is the step-free blue door. We are not in Mile End Mill, the building with a tall tower up the road.

  • Accessibility information: Our space is on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible with an accessible bathroom. Go to our Accessibility & Inclusion page for more information. Please tell us your specific access needs during booking and we will be in touch if we need any more information to make the adaptations.

  • Sensory information: We use lamps in our spaces to reduce sensory overwhelm and fidget toys are available.
