About this course

Whether you are an absolute beginner or finding your way with poetry writing, this lively and collaborative day will give you the energy, confidence and inspiration to continue. Via the work of published poets, developmental feedback from the tutor and the group and stimulating exercises we will work together to help you find your own voice in a supportive atmosphere

Course Outline:

  • What is a poem and where do you find it?
  • Using poems, ideas, memory and images as prompts
  • Sound, rhythm, form and structure
  • Working on a poem – writing your first draft
  • Working on a poem – development after the first draft and editing
  • Developing a developmental feedback approach to your own and others’ work


By the end of the course, you will:

  • Have experimented with using existing poems, images and other prompts to make a start on their poems
  • All have written at least one poem
  • Have a number of drafts of poems underway
  • Be able to recognize a number of poetic forms
  • Will be able to offer developmental feedback for themselves and others


Please bring:

  • Pens, paper or notebook


Suggested Reading for the course:

  • No specific books but read some poetry noting sources of inspiration, rhyming schemes (or not) how the poet conveys emotion

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
