CREATIVE WRITING TIME: WORKSHOP
Jean Laurie, who is very experienced in community arts, will run this two-hour workshop
At the Old Low Light Heritage Centre, we are always looking for new events to offer and were delighted when Jean Laurie, a regular visitor to our café, offered to run this creative writing workshop.
Jean, who lives in North Tyneside, has run many writing and poetry workshops and thought that people, of all levels of writing experience, might be interested in coming together to write inspired by some of the stories about local history and heritage on display in our heritage gallery.
She said: “The heritage centre is a perfect place for creative writing. It is surrounded by stunning views of the river and fish quay and is full of great stories about the history and heritage of North Shields, which will be a great source of inspiration.”
Jean had a lengthy career specialising in community arts. She has adapted plays and has had both poetry and short stories published in anthologies. She was a founder member of In-house Writers, who published a poetry trilogy, Coble Coast, Castle Coast and Carbon Coast, based on the history of the North East.
Over the years, she has led creative writing workshops for various groups, including online to accompany the public artworks inspired by The Lindisfarne Gospels exhibition for Northumberland Libraries. She performed her poems to mark
the rehousing of the Northern Poetry Library along with Katrina Porteous and Harry Gallagher (both of whom have delivered previous events at the heritage centre).
Join Jean to explore the stories on display in our heritage gallery and express your responses in poetry and prose.
