Creativity Action Research Resource Launch
Launching the Creativity Action Research Resource: an online tool supporting practitioners to teach for creativity through action research.
Join us for the launch of the Creativity Action Research Resource, a new online tool that will support teachers and creative practitioners to develop their skills in teaching for creativity through action research.
Creativity is one of the most important skills for students to develop so that they can confidently respond to the social, political, economic and cultural global challenges of our time (UNESCO, 2022; WEF, 2025). Recent Arts Council England supported research has shown that it is also a fundamental tool in supporting inclusion in schools.
This new resource brings creativity to life in teaching and learning by supporting teachers and other practitioners to develop their own understanding of creativity, and to explore how they can develop the creativity of others through action research.
The free, flexible materials are designed to be used in schools and other educational contexts, structured as a series of 11 practical modules that will guide users through an action research process, including 5 hour, 25 hour and 40 hour courses.
The resource has been developed by Professor Kerry Chappell and Dr Ursula Crickmay at the University of Exeter School of Education, in consultation with teachers and senior leaders from Penryn College, Cornwall and Penryn Creativity Collaborative lead, Sarah Childs. It has its roots in the five-year Penryn Creativity Collaborative project, the South West pilot in a UK-wide, Arts Council England-funded programme testing innovative practices in teaching for creativity. Thanks to funding from an Economic and Social Research Council Impact Accelerator Account grant, the resource will be free for schools to use.
Please join us for the launch event which will include:
- Introduction from Professor Bill Lucas, Director of the Centre for Real World Learning, co-chair of the advisory board of the PISA 2022 Test of Creative Thinking, chair of the Global Institute of Creative Thinking’s advisory board and co-author of the first Durham Commission Report on Creativity and Education.
- Access to the resource which will be available online from this date, and an online guided tour from Professor Chappell and Dr Crickmay
