Crochet Lantern Course

This Crochet Lantern Course Farnham – this is a three-week course (3 x 2 hour sessions), running Tuesday or Saturday afternoons. Make a beautiful lantern which will have the opportunity to feature in the glass foyer as part of the display for Unravel. You will of course have your lantern returned to you and it can then be used as a gorgeous lampshade.

I have designed 3 different lanterns/shades using triangle, hexagon and pentagon motifs that are easier to make than they look!

You’ll be learning how to:

  • join motifs with join-as-you-go (JAYG)
  • make 3 dimensional shapes with different motifs
  • how to set and stiffen your work

Skill level: Intermediate

Students must be confident with basic crochet stitches such as:

  • chaining
  • single crochet (UK double)
  • double crochet (UK treble)
  • slip stitching
  • fastening off

All other techniques will be taught in class.

As well as my guidance and hands on practical work, the course includes detailed class notes with photo tutorials and access to videos that go over key techniques covered in class.

Materials required:

  • 3.5mm hook
  • scissors
  • wool or tapestry needle
  • reading glasses if needed
  • Optional: 3mm & 4mm hooks

A kit is provided to make one lantern, this includes:

  • cotton yarn
  • stitch markers
  • balloon for shaping
  • stiffening agent

  • Week 1 - 17th January 2026
