About this event

Discover the timeless art of crochet with this Granny Square Workshop!

Led by experienced instructor Cathy van Hear, who has run her highly acclaimed crochet courses across the country, this workshop offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all participants. Join us for a hands-on session where beginners can learn the basics and seasoned crocheters can refine their skills and pick up tips and tricks for taking their work to the next level.

Whether you're new to crochet or looking to expand your repertoire, come and join us for a fun-filled afternoon of creativity and camaraderie. Materials will be provided, so all you need to bring is your enthusiasm and a desire to learn. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with fellow crafters and unleash your inner textile artist!

Please note that this workshop takes place upstairs at the Ayten Gasson Pop Up shop, and that there is not a lift in the building.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials are provided so just bring your enthusiasm! There isn't a kitchen at the venue, so do bring a bottle of water and snacks if you'd like, there will also be a coffee break if you want to pop out for refreshments.

I can't come any more, can I get a refund?

I'm afraid not. I'm a one-woman show and it's too difficult to administer refunds and prepare properly. You're welcome to send a friend in your place if you can't attend - just pop me a message to let me know.

What's the accessibility like at the venue?

The workshop takes place upstairs at the Ayten Gasson Pop-Up shop on Duke's Lane and I'm afraid that there isn't a lift to the workshop space.

Organized by

Cathy is a textile artist and crochet specialist based in Brighton and working across London and Sussex. She has 7 years of experience teaching workshops, courses, and classes at venues across the country such as Make Town, Morley College, and the Southbank Centre as well as in collaboration with Brainchild Festival and Bestival.

In her classes, she balances technical skill development and the joy of creating to build both technical and creative confidence in her students. Her studio practice focuses on crochet, but also includes stitch, natural dyeing, quilting, and surface manipulation. Using these traditional craft techniques, she delves into the tapestry of human experience, unravelling threads of identity, belonging, and self-discovery.
