The Controlled Schools' Support Council is the sectoral body for controlled schools in Northern Ireland.The controlled education sector is the largest, most diverse education sector in Northern Ireland (49% of all schools) across all phases which include: nursery, special, primary, secondary, grammar, integrated and Irish medium schools.CSSC’s vision is to empower controlled schools to serve their communities by enriching the lives of their children and young people.

SummaryThis module will provide a definition of trauma and adverse childhood experiences and explore the associated behavioural and health and wellbeing impacts. The module will consider the need for trauma informed approaches in schools and how the relational approaches to supporting emotional regulation represent an approach which supports all of our children and young people as well as those who work with them. Description of eventAs a Governor you can support your school by developing an understanding of how trauma informed approaches can enhance a school’s ethos. In this 45 minute session you will be provided with an overview of the content of the Safeguarding Board Northern Ireland’s Level 2 TIP training which CSSC can deliver for controlled schools and other relevant supports. The session will support Governors in considering how their role can support a trauma informed approach.
