Seminar Room, Postdoc Centre

Join us in the Cambridge University Algorithmic Trading Society (CUATS) Workshop on Object-Oriented Programming, a two-day masterclass aimed at teaching object-oriented principles. The workshop will take place in the Postdoc Centre at 16 Mill Lane Cambridge CB2 1SB on two consecutive days: Saturday, 23 May, 13:00-19:00 and Sunday, 24 May, 13:00-19:00. This is not a workshop to introduce basic Python. It is assumed participants are comfortable with basic Python syntax and functionality. The content covered draws heavily from “Fluent Python” by Luciano Ramalho:<a href="https://elmoukrie.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/luciano-ramalho-fluent-python_-clear-concise-and-effective-programming-oreilly-media-2022.pdf" title="https://elmoukrie.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/luciano-ramalho-fluent-python_-clear-concise-and-effective-programming-oreilly-media-2022.pdf" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://elmoukrie.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/luciano-ramalho-fluent-python_-clear-concise-and-effective-programming-oreilly-media-2022.pdf</a>Topics that are covered (in no particular order) include: 1. Python's Data Model• Methods, properties, and operators for built-in types• Magic methods and operator overloading• Object dictionaries, slots, and other magic attributes• The object creation mechanism and metaclasses• Context managers 2. Advanced Type System• Type hinting with mypy• Protocols and structural subtyping• Generic types• Function and method overloading 3. Object-Oriented Design• Dataclasses and decorators• Functions as first-class objects• Class methods and static methods• The SOLID principles: Single Responsibility, Open/Closed, Liskov Substitution, Interface Segregation, and Dependency Inversion 4. Design Patterns• Registry, Builder, Facade, Factory, Flyweight, Pub/Sub Live coding throughout both days of the workshop is encouraged.
