Event Overview: Lunch & Learn – Tackling Hate Crime
This Lunch & Learn, delivered during Hate Crime Awareness Week, will raise awareness of hate crime while providing a safe and supportive space for dialogue. The session combines education, creative expression, and intergenerational conversation to address both personal and systemic impacts of hate crime.
Key elements include:
- Awareness & Support – Practical information on recognising, reporting, and responding to hate crime.
- Safe Space – Facilitated group discussion where participants can share lived experiences, including the prompt “What stories were passed down in your family?”.
- Art Therapy Exercise – Using creative practice to process feelings, encourage reflection, and build resilience.
- Intergenerational & Systemic Trauma – Exploring how colonialism, migration, and systemic racism shape family narratives and community experiences. By combining learning, creativity, and open dialogue, the event will build understanding, solidarity, and confidence within the community to challenge hate crime. Hate Crime is often seen as an attack only on Muslims however this couldn’t be further from the truth and this event will help to unmask and discuss this.
Event Overview: Lunch & Learn – Tackling Hate Crime
As part of Hate Crime Awareness Week, Go Africa Community Hub CIC will host a Lunch & Learn event dedicated to tackling hate crime in our community. The session will bring together local residents, community leaders, and partners for an open and informative discussion over a shared meal.
The event will directly support the aims of the funding by:
- Raising awareness of hate crime – Participants will learn about the different forms of hate crime, how it affects individuals and communities, and the steps that can be taken to report incidents and access support. Guest speakers and resources will provide practical knowledge to empower attendees to recognise, respond to, and challenge hate crime in their everyday lives.
Providing a safe space to share experiences – The Lunch & Learn will create a supportive and respectful environment where individuals feel encouraged to talk about their experiences of hate crime.
- Through facilitated conversations, attendees will have the opportunity to listen, reflect, and build solidarity with others who may have faced similar challenges.
By combining education with open dialogue, the event aims to strengthen community understanding, resilience, and collective action against hate crime
