About this course

This course is a beginner guide to cupcake decorating. You will learn skills and techniques using ready to roll icing and sugar florist paste mixed together or modelling paste, to produce a selection of summer themed cupcake toppers including ice cream, watermelon, beach ball, bucket and spade, fish, starfish, and seaweed.  Some previous experience will be required to attend the course.  

By attending this course, you will learn how to: 

• Produce a fondant ice cream topper  

• Produce a fondant watermelon topper 

• Produce a fondant beach ball topper 

• Produce a fondant bucket and spade topper  

• Produce a fondant fish topper  

• Produce a fondant starfish and seaweed topper  

• Learn how to pipe buttercream on to a cupcake 

By the end of the course, you will have produced a selection of summer themed decorations to enhance any celebration cupcake or cake.  

Resources required by attendees

  • Cupcakes, buttercream, piping nozzle of choice and piping bag (Optional)   
  • Ready to roll icing and sugar florist paste or modelling paste 
  • Board and rolling pin 
  • Corn flour pouch  
  • Modelling tools – ball tool, dresden tool,  
  • Edible glue 
  • Foam pad  
  • Cocktail sticks 
  • Craft knife or small knife 
  • Paint brushes 
  • Scissors  
  • Small circle cutter for the beach ball and a leaf shape cutter.  
  • Dusting powders or concentrated gel food colouring Colours-Ice cream: brown, yellow, pink. Watermelon: white icing, red, black, and green. Beach ball: orange, yellow. Bucket and spade: yellow, red, and silver. Fish: white icing, orange and black. Starfish: Orange and or red. Please note if you prefer other colours bring along.    
  • Note pad and pen.
