Overview

Join us at the SWI Central Office and explore cyanotype printmaking. Preserve plants and keepsakes in stunning blue-and-white print!

SWI Skillshare: Cyanotype Printmaking Mini Workshop

Join us at the Scottish Women’s Institutes Central Office for a relaxed and creative afternoon exploring the beautiful art of cyanotype printmaking.

We’re delighted to welcome Alina Litvinova back to SWI following the success of her much-loved sea glass and glass engraving workshop last year. Alina is a community artist and curator, known for creating welcoming, creative spaces where people can experiment with new techniques and make something unique to take home.

Led by Alina, this hands-on Skillshare workshop will introduce you to the fascinating camera-less photographic process of cyanotype. Using paper and textiles coated with a solution of iron salts, you’ll create striking white and blue prints by arranging objects, exposing them to UV light, and revealing your designs through water.

During the workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to create your own unique prints using herbarium specimens and plants, or experiment with preserving meaningful objects such as jewellery, accessories, keys, and other small keepsakes. Participants are warmly encouraged to bring along their own flat objects, including fresh or dried flowers and foliage, to personalise their creations. Alina will be on hand throughout the session to offer guidance on which materials work best with the cyanotype process.

This friendly and informal workshop is ideal for anyone who enjoys creativity, trying new techniques, and learning new skills. No prior experience is needed.

What’s included:

  • Step-by-step tuition from an experienced tutor
  • All tools and materials for cyanotype printmaking on paper and textiles
  • The opportunity to create and take home your own prints
  • Refreshments provided

Open to SWI members & non-members!
