Cyanotype Workshop
Create a series of beautiful cyanotype prints
Cyanotype Workshop with Joe Purches
Saturday 6 June, 10-4
£90 (+ eventbrite fee) includes lunch & refreshments
A cyanotype workshop offers a hands-on introduction to one of the earliest photographic printing processes, known for its distinctive Prussian blue tones. Participants begin by learning about the history of cyanotype and how light-sensitive solutions are applied to paper or fabric. Using natural materials such as leaves, flowers, and found objects, as well as photographic negatives, they create striking compositions that harness the power of sunlight to produce unique, detailed prints.
Throughout the session, attendees are guided through each stage of the process, from coating and drying their surfaces to carefully exposing and developing their prints in water. As the images emerge, the transformation from pale green to rich blue reveals the magic of this simple yet captivating technique. There is plenty of opportunity to experiment with layering, transparency, and composition, encouraging both playful exploration and more considered design.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have created a series of beautiful cyanotype prints and gained the confidence to continue the process independently. Suitable for beginners and those with artistic experience alike, the workshop provides a relaxed and inspiring environment while highlighting the creative potential of this historic and accessible photographic method.
Suitable for beginners to more experienced wanting to further their knowledge Materials are provided.
