Dance & Zine to start off the New Year

Dance & Zine to start off the New Year

Stenton Village HallStenton, East Lothian
Sunday, Jan 11, 2026 from 10 am to 2:30 pm GMT
Overview

Embodied creativity, exploration and play - get ready to move and create your own zine.

New Year, new workshop - dance first, zine later.

Dance is often described as a universal language that communicates emotions, stories and ideas without the need for words, allows profound personal release and has a great power for communal bonding.

As the year begins, let's use the practice of the dance to come home to the body, to reconnect with the breath and the river of life, let's find comfort in rhythm and motion, and by doing so, nurture our creativity, imagination and freedom, which will lead us to the second part of the workshop - making our own zines.

What to expect:

  • will spend first half of the session in the dance, focusing on the body, grounding ourselves and opening up to possibilities of embodied, creative expression
  • will then learn how to make a zine and get creative with paper and images
  • to close the session we will have a wee dance and a closing circle to share about our creative journey together.

All materials for zine making are provided.

What to bring:

  • water bottle and snacks for lunch (we will have no break as such - time flies when you are having fun so please bring whatever food will nourish you during our time togeter, sharing food is optional ) there is kitchen in the venue so will be able to use hot water to make hot drinks
  • bring layers of clothes to stay comfortable and warm
  • bring a magazine or any images you may think you would like to use, if you are coming with an idea in mind
  • and last but not least, bring an open miind and a good dose of curiosity and humor.
