A practical online workshop for researchers to learn the basics of R.

<h1>Data Analysis and Visualisation in R</h1><p><em>This workshop is for University of Sheffield researchers. Please ensure that you sign up using a University of Sheffield email address so that your booking is accepted.</em></p><p>This is an introduction to R designed for participants with no programming experience. These lessons can be taught in a day (~ 6 hours). They start with some basic information about R syntax, the RStudio interface, and move through how to import CSV files, the structure of data frames, how to deal with factors, how to add/remove rows and columns, how to calculate summary statistics from a data frame, and a brief introduction to plotting. The last lesson demonstrates how to work with databases directly from R.</p><h2>What will we learn?</h2><p>We will be learning from <a href="https://datacarpentry.org/R-ecology-lesson/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">the Carpentries lesson on data analysis and visualisation with R</a>.</p><h2>Prerequisite knowledge</h2><p>This lesson assumes no prior knowledge of R or RStudio and no programming experience.</p><h2>Technical Requirements</h2><p>This lesson will require an installation of R and RStudio, instructions will be circulated prior.Both are available for all major operating systems.</p><h2>Statement on free at point of use training</h2><p>We are delighted to be able to make free at point of use training available to the research community, to enable better software and more open, reproducible research. However, free at point of use training is not free. The cost of a course can easily run to thousands of pounds, if preparation costs are taken into account.</p><p>If you sign up for a course, please make sure you either attend or cancel your booking. Bookings can usually be cancelled using eventbrite.com or, failing that, by emailing rse@sheffield.ac.uk.</p><p>Running courses that are not fully attended wastes our funding (which is provided by taxpayers, charities and students, amongst others) and reduces our collective capacity to improve research outputs and researcher experiences.</p><p>Persistent failure to attend booked courses might result in you being excluded from future training opportunities.</p>
