Data Overflow
Overview
Date and Time: December 19, Open from 12-5pm. The walk-through of the exhibition is anticipated to take around 30 minutes.
Location: Somerset House SW -1.07
Dive deeper into the true cost of the AI revolution at Data Overflow, an immersive exhibition exposing the critical environmental consequences of Generative AI on global water consumption. With a singular AI prompt requiring up to 3 litres of water to cool its data centre, audiences are invited to delve beneath the surface in our immersive waterworld exhibition, featuring custom artwork, interactive opportunities and keynote speeches from leading area experts. Through artistic visual education, join us in going against the current, challenging the growing over-reliance on Generative AI software and together changing the tide of more responsible AI usage. Fundamentally, we wish not to weaponise or reject AI chatbots - rather, equip attendees with the necessary, contextual education on AI’s environmental impact for responsible use.
Our exhibition hopes to educate through immersion; by blending a visual water world with educational materials and our very own ‘data’ centre we hope to impactfully demonstrate the sheer amount of water consumed (per chat prompt) to operate these data centres. In collaboration with upcoming young artists from the University of Arts London (UAL), Data Overflow will debut custom artistic pieces inspired and curated to visualise AI’s unsustainable water consumption.
Filming & Photography will be taking place at this event - if you wish not to be featured, please do let a member of staff know upon your arrival.
