Mini-Huddle Series: This<a href="https://future.nhs.uk/DataAnalyticsCovid19/view?objectID=19744528" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> mini-huddle series</a> is a spin-off from the NHSEI <a href="https://future.nhs.uk/DataAnalyticsCovid19/view?objectId=18976912" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">analytical huddles</a>, providing a platform to discuss COVID-19 data and analytics activity at national and local levels. Data Utility encompasses the various dimensions that contribute to the usefulness of data. Rather than using the term data quality, which is interpreted in different ways, focusing on data utility means that a dataset is considered based on the ability to be used for a specific purpose.The proposed framework aims to score datasets on these utility dimensions in order to measure and inform data custodians on the utility of a dataset, and to quickly indicate to users of the dataset whether the data it fit for their purpose. The framework has been developed based on learnings from interviews with around 25 representatives from academia, pharmaceutical industry, regulators, and technology. We’d love to hear your thoughts on the proposed framework and utility dimensions. Next Monday we will present the proposed framework, and open the sessions for questions and comments. Additionally, we have created a <a href="https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/HDRUK_Data_Utility_Framework" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">survey </a>to gather feedback on the proposed framework and dimensions. The survey takes approximately 12 mins. None of the questions are mandatory; the intention is to allow users to click through, explore the ideas, and comment on the areas that interest them. The survey closes on the 6th of July 2020.Once the survey has closed, we will incorporate the findings into a final version of the framework, ahead of a final consultation on the outcome of the work by HDRUK. Colleagues will discuss their recent work on developing a data utility framework. Karina Gajewska (Strategic Data Policy Lead, NHSX, currently Information Manager at the National Incident Coordination Centre, NHS England and NHS Improvement). NHSX is a joint unit bringing together teams from the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England and NHS Improvements to drive the digital transformation of care.
