About the Workshop This is a special one-off ‘Data Visualisation and Infographic Design’ <A HREF="http://www.visualisingdata.com/docs/WorkshopOverview(Half-Day)Aug18.pdf" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">half-day workshop</A> to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the <A HREF="https://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/thenhs/about/Pages/overview.aspx" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">NHS</A>. It represents a small gesture of thanks, albeit indirectly, to the service for all the care it has given my family and friends down the years. The workshop is offered only to NHS members of staff, entirely free of charge.
The training is relevant to anyone who has an interest in improving their critical thinking around the visual communication of data, whether you are somebody who creates data visualisations or infographics or just consumes them. This half-day session will challenge, enlighten, inspire and equip you with a more sophisticated understanding of this vital contemporary literacy.
The session capacity is limited to 70 places. To help manage a fair sign-up process, delegates will be limited to booking a maximum of 5 places per registration. The NHS is a complex organisation, so eligibility may be messy. There are many related bodies and institutes who should or could be considered 'part' of the NHS (eg. NIHR, Public Health bodies) and I don't want to prevent them attending. However, to establish an initial simplified criteria, delegates registering should have an NHS email address. If you do not have such an email address but can demonstrate you are part of a related NHS type of organisation (or will be joining the NHS by September) please, in the first instance, send an email to <A HREF="mailto:andy@visualisingdata.com" TARGET="_blank" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">andy@visualisingdata.com</A>. Please don't register if you are clearly not eligible (eg. you have to email to ask what NHS stands for), or if your name is Jeremy Hunt: it will save your time and my time and ensure places are available to those who merit them.   
About the Instructor Andy Kirk is a Leeds-based data visualisation specialist: A design consultant, training provider, lecturer, author, speaker, researcher, and editor of the award-winning website <A HREF="http://www.visualisingdata.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">visualisingdata.com</A>. Since founding Visualising Data Ltd in 2011, he has delivered over 240 public and private training workshop events in 20 countries. Recent clients include Spotify, Telefónica, Google, the EU Council, and CERN. Andy is a visiting lecturer teaching data visualisation on a Masters programme at Imperial College (UK) and is the author of two books, with the most recent work published in 2016 by SAGE, titled ‘Visualising Data: A Handbook for Data Driven Design’. He also provides data visualisation services to the Arsenal F.C. Performance Team.
Practical Matters The room will be open for arrival from 13:00 with the workshop commencing at 13:30 and finishing at 17:00. There will be a short break during the session. Please note that refreshments will not be provided but there is a nearby cafe to access drinks and refreshments.
This not a technical workshop offering software tutorials but attendees are nevertheless encouraged to bring charged laptops so they can view the exericse files and (where necessary) the slides, which will be issued digitally ahead of the session. Sharing devices one-between-two will be fine so if you don't have a laptop and can sit next a nice person willing to share their workspace, that will be absolutely fine and won't impede your experience. You will only need a browser and pdf reader and around 1 hour of charge at most.
Delegate Cancellations If you or any colleagues are unable to attend the event please ensure you communicate this so your place can be relinquished and opened up to others. A waiting list will be created, if necessary, for those who miss out places initially. If you wish to transfer your booking to another delegate, that is fine, but please email to <A HREF="mailto:andy@visualisingdata.com" TARGET="_blank" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">andy@visualisingdata.com</A> with details if this situation arises. The best advice is to make sure you can definitely attend the training before booking!
Event Cancellation In the extremely rare event that the workshop has to be cancelled due to any unforeseen circumstances an alternative event will be arranged. Visualising Data Ltd is not liable for any other costs incurred, such as travel or accommodation costs.
