Description
Open data science is a philosophy designed to address emerging challenges for society in data. The Open Data Science Initiative is a cross faculty project. To expand on the Data Hide evenings, we're organising a Data Science Workshop (Data@Sheffield) on the 16th December (the day after the December Data Hide). This extended data hide will give us the opportunity to explore and develop ideas and maybe clearer directions for Open Data Science.
The speakers at datahides have been from across academia; from practical talks about how researchers can open and share their data and methods, to proofs and theory (e.g. tools for providing privacy when releasing large datasets), to applications (e.g. using malaria and weather data to forecast/nowcast cases of the disease), to the broader social and political effects (e.g. how people interact with, use or generate data).
