This incredible NYC-based group, Breathing Space, perform at Fire Station Creative with original music that integrates folkloric Trinidadian & Brazilian elements in a modern jazz context

Band leader David Bertrand grew up in the Trinidadian neighbourhood of Cocorite, where a late-night BBC jazz broadcast sparked a lifelong passion for jazz flute. Influenced by artists including Joe Farrell, John Coltrane and Joe Henderson, he has developed a distinctive voice blending modern jazz with the folkloric rhythms of his homeland.

Since moving to New York and graduating from Queens College’s MA jazz programme, David has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center and festivals across the Caribbean and Latin America. His David Bertrand Quartet has been praised for its rich fusion of jazz and Trinidadian musical traditions.
