Dead Hedging 19/08

Dead hedges are compiled of natural materiails which create excellent habitats for small mammals, invertebrates, birds and fungi. Join us to build these natural barriers and create and protect habitats.

We will either be working at Newlands Corner, around the Yew Tree Project where the dead hedges will help to protect these fragile trees or on Ranmore Common, above Wotton where the hedges will hopefully deture illegal mountain bikers who are disturbing the Site of Special Scientific Interest.

What to bring/wear

• Water bottle

• Packed lunch

• Cup/ mug for a hot drink

• Long trousers and sleeves recommended

• Sturdy closed-toe shoes eg walking boots

• Weather-appropriate clothing - suncream and sunhat if it is hot, waterproofs if it is wet.

• Gardening gloves. We will have plenty of spare to lend out but to guarantee a good fit do bring your own

Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided, along with work gloves and all tools required.

Additional Information

No dogs please.

Under 18s are welcome at our events. Under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. 16-18s must have a signed parental consent form to attend independently. Please email volunteering@surreyhillssociety.org.
