From 1 to 30 June, RIBA will host an exciting programme of installations, talks and events as part of the London Festival of Architecture, responding to the festival's 2023 theme: In Common.

Join us for the launch event of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/deafarchitecturefront/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Deaf Architecture Front</a> (DAF), presented by Chris Laing, founder of DAF and well-known as the founder of <a href="https://www.arts.ac.uk/colleges/central-saint-martins/stories/signstrokes" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Signstrokes</a>. This event includes presentations and an opportunity to network, alongside displays to demonstrate and raise awareness of the issues today. DAF is a platform and a collective with a focus on activism, consultation, open resource and research, with the aim to create a bridge between Deaf communities and architectural/spatial practice industries. DAF will make a huge difference to the Deaf community by creating a bridge to architecture, aiming to remove the barriers that have been in place for many years preventing Deaf people from engaging with architectural practice. Please Note:The Deaf Architecture Front Launch will be BSL Interpreted. This event is taking place in the Florence Hall on the First Floor at 66 Portland Place. We are making the event as inclusive as possible but please be aware access to the First Floor is via passenger lift only. Chris Laing is an Architectural Designer, Activist, and Consultant, and the founder of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/signstrokes/?hl=en" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Signstrokes </a>and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/deafarchitecturefront/?hl=en" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Deaf Architecture Front</a>. He is keen to facilitate engagement between the Deaf community and the spatial and architecture practice industry - hoping to see greater opportunities for the field of architecture to benefit from Deaf peoples’ perspective in the near future. Chris joined <a href="https://www.haworthtompkins.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Haworth Tompkins</a> in 2017 and recently became a Part 2 Architectural Assistant. Chris studied Architecture at Kingston University and Interior Architecture and Design at UCA. He completed his MA at the Royal College of Art for his Part 2, where he was nominated for the Spatial Justice Award for his Thesis Project in 2021. His research interests include DeafSpace and how to build bridges between Deafness and Architecture. <h3>Sabine Zetteler</h3>Founder + Director, Zetteler and Design Can

Sabine Zetteler is a communications specialist with over 15 years’ experience. Having started her career at the BBC, she has been immersed in London’s creative community for two decades. She founded <a href="https://www.zetteler.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zetteler </a>in 2012, dedicating her time and her business to championing the creative people, progressive brands and community-driven initiatives that make a positive impact on the world. A committed charity volunteer, Sabine helped launch the design-industry equity campaign <a href="https://www.design-can.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Design Can</a> in 2019.<h3>Jos Boys </h3>Co-Founder + Co-Director, The DisOrdinary Architecture Project

Jos is co-founder and co-director, with disabled artist Zoe Partington, of <a href="https://disordinaryarchitecture.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The DisOrdinary Architecture Project</a>. This is an informal platform promoting activity that develops and captures models of new practice for the built environment, led by the creativity and experiences of disabled artists and architects. Jos's publications include Doing Disability Differently: an alternative handbook on architecture, dis/ability and designing for everyday life (Routledge 2014); Disability, Space, Architecture: A Reader (Routledge 2017); and Neurodivergence and Architecture (edited with Anthony Clarke and John Gardner, Elsevier 2022). This event is part of the 2023<a href="https://www.londonfestivalofarchitecture.org/#:~:text=The%20London%20Festival%20of%20Architecture%20%7C%201%20%E2%80%93%2030%20June%202022" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> London Festival of Architecture. </a>
