Decolonising Academic Libraries
Join us in person to rethink how academic libraries can shed colonial legacies and embrace diverse voices!
Join Us for Decolonising Academic Libraries!
This co-creation event will bring together library professionals, managers and colleagues working with collections, learning, research support, metadata, digital services, user engagement and institutional policy to explore current needs, emerging good practice and unresolved challenges around the decolonisation of academic libraries, with a particular focus on Scotland.
The event will create space for open exchange and practical reflection. Together, we will discuss questions such as:
- What does decolonising an academic library mean in practice?
- Where do decolonisation and EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion) overlap, and where do they differ?
- How are libraries rethinking collections, cataloguing, classification and discovery?
- How can academic libraries support more inclusive teaching, learning and research?
- What forms of community knowledge, lived experience and marginalised voices are still under-represented?
- How can libraries move beyond symbolic actions towards sustainable organisational change?
- What support, tools, guidance and partnerships are needed across Scottish academic libraries?
Participants will be invited to share experiences, identify barriers, exchange practical approaches and help shape future DALiS guidance for Scottish academic libraries.
This event is organised by DALiS (Decolonising Academic Libraries in Scotland: From Principles to Practice) and funded by SLIC (Scottish Library and Information Council), coordinated by Dr Milena Dobreva at the University of Strathclyde.
