Engaging with ‘deep time’, the evolutionary journey of our universe, can shift our perspective on the present.On Sunday the 24th of October, you’re invited to traverse all the eons of history with us, as part of the<a href="https://artandecology.earth/pilgrimage-for-cop26/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Pilgrimage for COP26</a>! We've partnered with the <a href="https://www.deeptimewalk.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Deep Time Walk</a>, a transformative journey through 4.6bn years of Earth history via a 4.6km guided walk. Through their free app you can learn about key concepts from Earth’s evolution and experience a unique perspective of deep timeWe will individually walk with the Deep Time Application on our phones along the volcanic rocks of Holyrood Park before gathering in the Central Edinburgh Quaker Meeting House for a facilitated workshop to reflect on our experiences. We will also ask how a deep time perspective may inform our personal and collective responses to the socio-ecological crises we find ourselves in.Everyone is welcome, whether you’re walking other parts of the Pilgrimage for COP26 or are just joining for the day.The walk and workshop will be followed by a simple dinner provided by the Quaker community.This event is part of the Pilgrimage for COP26 - A walk and a learning journey from Dunbar to Glasgow to reflect on the climate and ecological crisis in anticipation of COP26. We'll use it in the workshop but you will be able to take it with you at the end. </li><li>Weather appropriate clothing and footwear </li><li>Your own drinks &amp; snacks</li><li>A notebook and pen if you wish </li></ul>AccessibilityThe Deep Time application can also be listened to while being seated for those who are not able to walk 4.6km. A mobility-assist mode is available inside the Settings panel of the app. After the initial introduction at the Parliament (see below) you can choose your own spot to engage with the app. Day scheduleThe walk and workshop are part of a wider programme of events on Sunday as part of the Pilgrimage for COP26 to which anyone is welcome:11-1pm - Interfaith service &amp; lunch at St James Church in Leith - no booking required2:30pm Start Deep Time Walk Meeting point: Outside the Scottish Parliament under the covered walkway. Arrival from 2:15pm for a prompt start. After a short introduction you'll be invited to walk with the Deep Time Walk App at your own pace, with a suggested route around Holyrood park provided.5–7pm Deep Time, Grief and Wonder workshopLocation: Central Edinburgh Quaker Meeting House. Reflect on the Deep Time Walk. Open to anyone who's walked the Deep Time Walk either earlier that day or previously. Arrival from 4:30pm for refreshments. Workshop facilitated by Robert Woodford, Jonathan Baxter and Olga Bloemen.7–9pm Pilgrims’ SupperFor Deep Time Walkers and Quaker hosts.
