Question 1

What are the genres of music I'm likely to hear?

Accepted Answer

Techno, House, Acid, Ambient, atmospheric sweeps, bass and banging beats. Occasional diversions. Slower and faster, softer and harder. Feel-good light and uplifting, and a few darker. Supporting a range of movement. A good sound system. Playing loud- but not quite as loud or high-spec as a club.

Who are the DJs/facilitators?

Accepted Answer

Nathan has years of DJ and free dance experience- both as attendee and facilitator. Deep reflection, meditation, yoga and philosophy are infused in the approach. And this is a high-energy music-driven space as well! Guest DJs bring their own flavours, in-keeping with the vibe.

Question 3

How long will the Guest DJ be playing for?

Accepted Answer

It's not a precise science, and it may work differently each time- but generally it will be Nathan playing for up to an hour,  and Guest DJ playing for 1 hour. Often each playing a distinct set- other times playing tracks back-to-back. Whatever the night calls for. Roughly 50/50, all-in-all.

Who's this event for?

Accepted Answer

This event is for you if you like electronic music and want to move. If you are ready and open to being with yourself and perhaps even others (up to you!) in the dance. It's for anyone willing to let loose and explore their own authentic movement pathways- to an amazing electronic music soundtrack.

Who's this event not for?

Accepted Answer

It might not be for you if 'all electronic music sounds the same,' and a good solid 4x4 beat doesn't set you in motion! Nor if, for whatever reason, you're not comfortable exploring your own direct embodied dance/movement without any other distractions at this time. Or closed to club alternatives.

Question 6

What's the format/schedule?

Accepted Answer

Arrive 7.45pm for room entry 8pm. (Doors close 8.15pm). No opening circle. Begin warming up as you feel to. Perhaps lying down, sensing, grounding. Or stretching, loosening. A gently-guided warm-up follows. Leads into main dance- self&music-led- no words. 9.45pm(ish) closing circle. Leaving at 10pm.

Tell me more!

Accepted Answer

OK! No set exercises- just invitational warm-up prompts- words to (hopefully!) help you arrive into your body and into the dance. No prescribed partner work. Just free-movement dance. The music, the space, the journey. The only verbal guidance is in the warm-up, the first part of the session.

Where are tickets and further info available?

Tickets online in advance THROUGH EVENTBRITE (and sometimes 'Skiddle') ONLY.
Book early for best prices. Full price General Admission cash-only tickets are usually available on the door. You can visit WWW.CONSCIOUSTECHNO.COM to listen to mixes, for contact and mailing list sign-up. No social media.

Question 9

What's the lighting and room decor going to be like?

Accepted Answer

No lasers, strobes or neon, nor draping hippy cloth hangs! Not seeking to recreate the club environment, nor project a 'conscious' image (if such a thing can even exist!). A parred-back, no-frills, simple space to dance in. Held within the warm glow of fairy lights around the edge of the room.

Are there any other general rules I need to know?

Accepted Answer

Last entry 8.15pm.
Dancing barefoot.
Respect self/others/group.
No photos/video/phones.
No talking on the dance-floor.
It's a non-verbal space- let's be with the movement.
Put bags/coats etc. safely to sides of the room.
Wear comfortable clothes, bring water.
No drugs/alcohol. Sober entry only.
18+.

Question 11

No photos, videos, phones at all on the dance floor?

Accepted Answer

That's right. Generally no phones, photos, videos. Organisers/helpers may take photos/videos of DJs for promotional use, but that's it. If participants are in any photo/video, they will be blurred out before any promotional use. The intention is we can express freely and dance without distraction.

Question 12

What should I wear?

Accepted Answer

Whatever you feel comfortable moving in. It really doesn't matter, so long as you feel at ease and free to move. No shoes or socks on the dance floor though! If you really don't want to go barefoot, non-marking indoor shoes are ok as well. Layers generally a good idea, as we warm up and cool down.

Are there refreshments?

Accepted Answer

No refreshments, so bring what you need along with you. Though no alcohol, if that needs saying. It's recommended that you bring your own bottle of water. There is an accessible tap by the side of the stage (to the right as you look at it, through the door).
