National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS)Paisley, Renfrewshire
Wednesday, Feb 18, 2026 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm GMT
Overview

A practical workshop on designing products for repair, reuse, and remanufacture, turning circular ideas into real-world results.

Design for ReX: Practical Steps for Manufacturers

Design for ReX focuses on designing products so they can be remanufactured, repaired, refurbished, repurposed or reused, keeping materials in circulation and at their highest value for as long as possible.

This session explores practical ways to embed these principles into your products and processes from the start, helping you reduce waste, lower cost, and strengthen circular value streams.

You’ll also hear from local company WEEE Scotland, who will share their experience working with the NMIS Design Engineering team to improve product value and build more resilient revenue models.

Refreshmnets and lunch will be provided.

Why should you attend?

Design for ReX is one of the biggest opportunities for manufacturers to retain value, reduce environmental impact, and stay ahead of regulatory change. By designing products for remanufacture, repair or reuse, businesses can unlock new commercial opportunities and extend product life.

This workshop provides practical steps to embed ReX principles in your design process, supported by real insights from WEEE Scotland’s collaboration with NMIS.

Who should attend?

Ideal for manufacturers, engineers, product designers, and sustainability leads to futureproof their products and improve circularity at the design stage.
Also relevant to participants from policy, academia, and the wider circular economy community exploring how ReX decisions influence long-term value, cost, and competitiveness.

About the ReMake training series

The ReMake Glasgow training series helps manufacturers of all sizes explore practical ways to keep products in service for longer, cut carbon, and unlock new business opportunities through circular value retention.

Delivered by the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and the University of Strathclyde, the workshops form part of ReMake Glasgow - a project funded through the Glasgow City Region Innovation Accelerator programme, led by Innovate UK on behalf of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

Each session introduces tools and approaches developed through ReMake demonstrators in remanufacturing, repair, and reuse , helping businesses build capability and explore collaboration opportunities with the ReMake Value Retention Centre (RVRC).

All sessions run from 09:30–12:30, followed by an optional hour of networking.
