A workshop exploring how knowledge-rich curriculum can both be academically demanding and include a diverse number of voices.

Often a knowledge-rich approach to curriculum design is characterised as focusing on traditional content choices resulting in a curricular diet which is 'male, pale and stale'. This workshop will explore ways in which this characterisation is misleading and how curriculum design can be both academically rigorous and include a diverse number of voices. This will involve looking at general principles and how these have been put into practice using the case studies of secondary english and history.Who should attend?This workshop would be useful for any teacher or senior leader involved in curriculum leadership.The TutorsMatthew Carnaby is the Director of English at the Inspiration Trust &amp; Oak National Academy KS3 English lead. He completed his degree and teacher training at the University of East Anglia and has spent the majority of the last ten years working in a range of schools in Norfolk and Suffolk. Matthew's particular interests are: teacher and curriculum development, the teaching of writing and diversification

The TutorsBen Arscott is the senior subject lead for History at the Inspiration Trust. Ben has worked in a range of comprehensive schools in Sheffield, East London, Norwich and Cromer. In those schools Ben has worked as a head of department, head of faculty and an Assistant Principal. Ben is also the subject lead for KS3 history at the Oak National Academy.
