About this event

  • 2 hours

Traditional models of the curriculum have often excluded marginalised groups and created a hierarchy of intellectual thought and ideas. Our learning schemes needs to reflect the wide demographic of our students and promote diversity of thought in order to encourage an inclusive environment. It should model wide ranging representation and parallel present and historical narratives. In order to create a robust and engaging curriculum model we need to take time to reflect on the importance of this approach, who it benefits and interrogate our current practice. This session will equip you with the foundational knowledge as to how to approach a more inclusive and diverse curriculum within your school setting, why it’s essential we begin this journey and where to start.

Topic headings:

  • Why the need for developing an inclusive curriculum?
  • How does prejudice and discrimination manifest in the education system?
  • Exploring language, bias, microaggressions and absence of representation.
  • How do we start interrogating our curriculum?
  • Keys to meaningful change.
