Developing an inclusive organisation

Weston College is the ninth biggest college group in the country. It won both College of the Year and Overall FE Provider of the Year at the 2015 TES Awards. It offers courses ranging from entry level to Master’s Degree level, plus apprenticeships, traineeships and courses to help prepare people for the world of work.Weston College won the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education in 2017, just two weeks after winning two Association of Colleges’ (AOC) Beacon Awards for Widening Participation and Learners with Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities.

Did you know that 7.6 million people of working age in the UK have a disability?

Is your organisation Disability Confident? Is it fully inclusive for staff and customers?In partnership with North Somerset Council, we want to bust some myths, show you how to become disability confident and create an inclusive organisation. 
Over the course of the event we will hear from key people that have encompassed change, overcome barriers and are leaders in their field:

</li><li>Jo Walker, Chief Executive of North Somerset Council</li><li>John Turner, CEO of Visit Somerset
</li><li>Ben Mager, Weston College learner and Student of the Year 2018.

You will come away knowing: 
<ul><li>The benefits of creating an inclusive and disability confident organisation
</li><li> The journey to becoming a wholly inclusive organisation.
</li></ul>
You will also receive: 
<ul><li>Inclusive practice ‘essentials’ toolkit 
</li><li>A motivational model of training to support staff in their transition.
</li></ul>

Weston College has been working for the past 10 years to develop an ethos of inclusive practice, across all aspects of our provision, our support systems and our innovative resources, to ensure all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential. 

North Somerset Council is one of only two councils in England to be awarded ‘Leader’ status under the Disability Confident Scheme. The scheme, run by the Government’s Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), recognises organisations who are committed to ensuring disabled people and those with long-term health conditions have the opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.
