Immersive technologies and techniques can deliver exciting new experiences for customers, visitors and audiences. The University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University are combining their expertise in these areas and working with local businesses to introduce them to the technologies and help develop viable products. This will help businesses maximise potential and profit in a post-pandemic economy.

Developing Interactive Cinematic Content Workshop & SCREENING: Before We Disappear

About this event If you’re interested in developing creative interactive film concepts, this event is for you. These interactive and creative workshops will be presented by, Dr. Richard Ramchurn, an expert in the field of interactive cinema. He has written and directed several films. He will introduce his work and the concept of adaptive films where the viewed media changes based on sensed from the viewer. There will then be special test screenings of several versions of his new adaptive film Before We Disappear. On the second day there will be an interactive workshop in which you will explore, discuss, and experience various types of interactive film. Learn how to plan and create an interactive film, and experiment with storytelling conventions. You will develop your own interactive film ideas and concepts with professional assistance from the workshop presenter. Workshop 1: Introduction to Interactive Cinema (Friday February 24th, 11:00-17:00) Ramchurn will discuss the different types of interactive film and give background to some of his previous work and introduce his new film. There will be several interactive screenings of the new adaptive film Before We Disappear with built in feedback sessions to generated data to further the research. The day will wrap up with a discussion of the potentials of interactive and adaptive cinema. <ul><li>Introduction from Director. </li><li>Screenings of Before We Disappear. </li><li>Feedback session. </li><li>Discussion of the potential of interactive cinema. </li></ul>Workshop 2: Developing Interactive Cinema (Saturday February 25th, 11:00-17:00) Let&#x27;s get creative with stories! There will be an introduction to the various tools and technologies for creating and controlling interactive film, including brain computer interfaces and computer vision emotion detection. In this workshop, we&#x27;ll explore how to develop interactive narratives using free tools like Twine or by storyboarding. You&#x27;ll also have the chance to try out brain computer interface devices and AI computer vision. Director and researcher Richard Ramchurn will support you in creating your own interactive film concept. <ul><li>Introduction to interactive film tools. </li><li>Hands on with interactive techniques. </li><li>Developing creative interactive film concepts. </li><li>Pitching session of ideas. </li></ul> Is this session right for me? This event is perfect for anyone interested in developing creative interactive film concepts and learning how to develop interactive narratives for storytelling. Thorough knowledge of film production is not necessary. B﻿io Dr Richard Ramchurn is an artist and researcher who creates stories that can sense and adapt to the viewers’ physiological and emotional state. His film work explores race and technology in the Anthropocene in the forms of science fiction and magical realism. Ramchurn has been creating films and experiences using Brain Computer Interface technology since 2013. #Scanners, a successfully kick-started project became an interactive narrative film called The Disadvantages of Time Travel (2014) that viewers controlled via brain data and blinking. His next brain-controlled film, The MOMENT (2018) toured internationally, and online and was covered by international media. These films were further explored as a multi award-winning research PhD project at the University of Nottingham’s Mixed Reality Lab working with world-class researchers in the field of Human Computer Interaction. His current interactive film Before We Disappear is set in the aftermath of a climate revolution in the near future. It explores the use of computer vision to support non-conscious interaction.
