Dialectograms: A Beginners Guide

Dialectograms: A Beginners Guide

Hunterian Art GalleryGlasgow, Glasgow
Saturday, Mar 28 from 11 am to 1 pm
Overview

Join us for a workshop with Mitch Miller and create your very own dialectogram.

A mix of maps, oral history and narrative storytelling, dialectograms have been made by Mitch Miller in and around Glasgow for over a decade. With subjects ranging from tower blocks to music venues, health centres to fairgrounds, dialectograms use verbatim oral accounts, fieldwork and extensive community participation to depict the complexities of place and the people who occupy them.

Based on the Cowp/Claypits dialectogram on display in the Glasgow 850 exhibition, this workshop will explore and explain the process of mapping the things that are usually left out of traditional maps. Ideal for those with an interest in community engagement and urban regeneration, but also more generally, those keen to get under Glasgow's skin.
