Difficult Discussions 


This interactive workshop will explore how to approach those inevitable 'difficult' conversations that we all have to face in our working lives.

In this session participants will: 

  • Discuss the reasons why some conversations can be difficult.
  • Identify some key steps to enable these discussions to take place.
  • Practice having a difficult conversation.
  • Explore the skills needed to effectively influence.
  • Identify some support methods and plan for a difficult discussion.

Trainer Bio: Gemma Rowden

After ten years in the museums and visitor attractions industry, Gemma made the move to not for profit in April 2016 where she joined The Scout Association as Learning and Development Business Partner. In her previous roles at The Roman Baths, Natural History Museum and The View from The Shard, Gemma gained extensive experience in customer service, induction, management and leadership, communications and various soft skills training as well as becoming a qualified coach.

At Scouts Gemma was working on shaping the learning and development strategy and encouraging a culture of continuous 'learning by doing' at what could be argued the original youth learning organisation.


We ask that all attendees arrive 15 minutes before the workshop starts to allow for registration and ensure a timely start and the smooth running of the workshop. Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day, however lunch will not be provided.

Cancellations and Refunds:
If you cancel your place at least 3 full working days before the event takes place then you are entitled to a full refund by request. Refunds for cancellations after this point are given at the discretion of Small Charities Coalition.

If you cannot make a workshop please advise us as soon as possible. Workshops normally have a waitlist and if you notify us early enough then there's a good chance another charity can attend in your place.
