Digital Audio with Microcontrollers Workshop

Brighton Digital Festival is a platform for supporting and encouraging people across the city to experience and explore digital technology and culture. The annual month-long festival both celebrates Brighton’s creativity, its innovative digital economy and top-level arts scene whilst providing space for meaningful critique about the role of digital technology in reshaping life and culture.From small-scale meet ups to big name conferences, digital artists’ experimental ideas to fully mounted exhibitions, BDF promises something for everybody and because many events are free, plenty of opportunities to discover something new. It brings together diverse sections of Brighton’s population in new settings, as creators, as audiences and as participants, to help shape the future of the region.We're a grassroots Festival, with the majority of events organised by members of Brighton’s digital and arts communities. Since 2015 we have become a Community Interest Company (CIC), moving away from being tied to any single organisation and becoming independent.We welcome the continued support of Arts Council England and Brighton & Hove City Council.

As part of BDF's Big Digital Fair, this workshop is an introduction to creating and processing digital audio using microcontrollers.

Taking place at <a href="https://www.platf9rm.com/hove-town-hall" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Platf9rm</a> (Hove Town Hall), Brighton Digital Festival's <a href="https://brightondigitalfestival.co.uk/events/bdfs-digital-fair" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Big Digital Fair</a>, in partnership with Legal &amp; General, is a fun daytime event that will showcase digital business, digital making and arts from across the city and beyond. Join Sound artist and DIY electronic instrument maker, <a href="http://www.cutlasses.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Scott Pitkethly</a> (AKA Cutlasses), for his Digital Audio with Microcontrollers Workshop. An introduction to creating and processing digital audio using microcontrollers. The workshop will centre around the Teensy, a development board similar to Arduino. You will ‘bread board’ (a method of quickly prototyping circuits without soldering) your own circuit, which will utilise the Teensy along with buttons, leds, and potentiometers, which you'll patch together to create a circuit. You’ll learn how to use the Teensy’s audio library and visual design tool, to connect together audio effects, and download the result onto your circuit, allowing you to experiment with sculpting and distorting sound.The workshop will not require any specialist knowledge.
