Derry City & Strabane District Council, in conjunction with ERNACT and Maynooth University, invites local stakeholders to attend a Digital Cities Challenge Workshop on:
 
Wednesday 12th September, 9.30 am, Catalyst Inc. (lunch will be provided)
 
Background
Derry City and Strabane District Council has been selected by the European Union to participate in the Digital Cities Challenge (DCC), a digital transformation initiative aimed at helping cities implement digital policies and Smart City initiatives to further the digital maturity of the city and transform day-to-day life for our residents, businesses, workers and entrepreneurs.  
 
Objectives Throughout the summer local stakeholders from government, industry, finance, academia, community organisations and social partners have provided Key Performance Indicator (KPI) information and completed a digital Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) questionnaire.  The objectives of the KPIs and SAT were to:

<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">Determine the level of digital maturity in the city across 8 dimensions of digital development: digital competencies of firms; governance and leadership; open data; support services; community; finance; digital infrastructure; digital skillset</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">Collect data to diagnose the current status and measure progress made during and at the end of the Digital Cities Challenge</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">Identify the important points for discussion with stakeholders on how to further develop and improve the digital transformation strategy of the city</LI>
</UL>
 
The workshop will include a presentation of the results of the SAT and KPIs. Stakeholders will discuss the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities identified in these results and add their own experiences and understanding to the conversation. The goal is to end the workshop with an assessment report that contains a clear understanding of our current digital capacity, the area’s most in need of focus during the implementation phase of the Digital Cities Challenge, and ideas on how to tackle those areas. The assessment report will be peer reviewed by the Digital Cities Challenge experts and other challenge city representatives at the next DCC seminar in October.
