A MUTE SYNTH WORKSHOP
Mute are excited to be taking part in The Label Lodge - a series of pop-up residencies taking place at the #JagerSoho space, hosted by Soho Radio, Association of Independent Music and Jägermeister. We will be hosting our own shop from 25th September to 1st October.
As part of this collboration, Mute have paired with Dirty Electronics to host 'A Mute Synth Workshop'. There will be two sessions, both taking place on Friday 29th September, from 12:30-15:30, and from 16:30-19:30.
DESCRIPTION
The Mute Synth II (MSII) pushes through a pick-up-and-play approach. It is born out of Dirty Electronics’ ongoing commitment to DIY and noise aesthetics, and serves as a catalyst for experimenting with electronic sound. At the core of the instrument is a versatile mini patchbay that provides expansion and modification permutations and a grid-like visual representation of patched parameters using coloured jumpers. The patchbay encourages a particular interaction with the instrument and playfulness. The printed circuit board artwork, designed in collaboration with Adrian Shaughnessy, has multiple touch electrodes in the form of small squares that provide a labyrinth of possible connections and resulting behaviors. The MSII was released on Mute Records in 2014 with three sell-out editions (black, white, orange), and came with an album of tracks by Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle / Carter Tutti Void), Simon Fisher Turner, Dominic Butler (Bronze Teeth / Factory Floor), Kidkanevil, and Dirty Electronics et al.
Following the release, Mute Synth II workshops took place at Sonar Barcelona and Sonar Reykjavik, Berlin, the Netherlands and Sweden. A special edition, limited run has been produced for Mute Records’ label lodge at Soho Radio. This will be the first Mute Synth II workshop in the UK.
