We work to promote the values and principles of Self-directed Support, including choice, control and flexibility, in all aspects of social care support.We do this by working collaboratively across the social care sector: with Scottish Government, Local Authorities, third sector organisations and our members, to improve Self-directed Support implementation in Scotland.As a membership organisation, we bring together those who share our vision and values, to amplify our collective voice around social care support issues.As a Disabled People’s Organisation (an organisation where at least 51% of the Board are either disabled people or/and people who are eligible for social care support), we stand up for the rights of disabled people and people who need support.And we champion local Independent SDS Support Organisations across Scotland, who help thousands of people every year access and manage the support they need to live a good life.Find out more out what we doon our website.

Disability Equality Training was designed by disabled people to enable people to explore the essential issues that influence perceptions and perspectives of disability and determine the impact this has upon attitudes, service design and delivery.Disability Equality training is designed and delivered by disabled people and covers four fundamental elements:<ul><li>Models of Disability, which explores frameworks for understanding disability</li><li>Language of Disability, which explores why language is important and identifies some basic terms for discussion</li><li>Cultural Perspectives, which explores the influence media and imagery has upon our perception of disability</li><li>Barriers, which looks at the discrimination disabled people continually encounter and how these can be addressed</li></ul>This would be a half days training which would enable participants to gain a firm grounding in the ideas and good practice relating to disability equality.Key Learning PointsBy the close of the session people will have:<ul><li>An Awareness of Movements as drivers for change</li><li>Awareness of the impact of various Models of Disability and Mental Health</li><li>Understanding of Stereotyping and Discrimination</li><li>Understanding of the Law and Legislation regarding Equality and Disability</li><li>Understanding of how language related to disability shapes perception</li></ul>The training will be provided by Cameron Equality Training, by a very experienced trainer, Maggie Cameron and their website is here: https://www.facebook.com/CameronEqualityTrainingPlaces are limited so please book yours now.
