Connected Voice

This online workshop will look at disability discrimination using a number of case studies from employment, housing and more.

This training is for voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations serving Gateshead.This Disability rights workshop is delivered by Adam Matthews from <a href="https://societymatterscic.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Society Matters CIC</a>. Society Matters deliver training on a number of social welfare topics and this time the focus is on disability rights, with examples from employment, housing, education, public services, consumer and public transport settings. This session would benefit those working in a range of different roles but is particularly relevant to you if your organisation supports people with long-term physical and mental health conditions and disabilities, and strives to challenge disability discrimination in any form.The workshop will cover:<ul><li>What is disability discrimination and how it affects people</li><li>What is classed as a ‘disability’ in the UK and what support is available </li><li>How disability discrimination fits into the Equality act</li><li>The difference between harassment, direct and indirect discrimination</li><li>Support available for people who have been affected by disability discrimination.</li></ul>Spaces are limited to a maximum of ONE attendee per organisation.

Our training and events are funded from a variety of sources and free to eligible organisations. Please check the eligibility requirements for each session before signing up, as this varies from course to course. We have taken every step to make this as simple, accessible and secure as possible. We will be able to advise on how to access the session easily and without having to download software. Zoom can be accessed by a smartphone, or any device with a camera and microphone such as a laptop, tablet or desktop computer.Accessibility Please let us know in advance if you have any accessibility requirements that would help you get the most out of this session. We will do everything we can to accommodate them. We can provide a BSL interpreter for training and events on request, but ask you to give us enough advance notice to enable this to be organised. To maximise resources, we are unable to provide BSL interpreters for all sessions unless we know this is essential.Evaluation This training session is free to attend but we ask that all participants complete a short evaluation on completion. This feedback enables us to continue delivering a free programme of training.For security and practical reasons: You can only book one place for yourself, using the email address you use on the device you'll be using to participate in the online session. If a colleague wants to attend, they will need to book separately themselves. You must give us all the essential information requested so that we know your registration is genuine.Joining instructions and any handouts or worksheets, will be emailed to you 24 hours ahead of the session start time by the named person hosting the session. It is essential you do not share this with anyone not registered to attend. Anyone not on the registration list will not be allowed into the session.Attendance and substitution On registration, please put the session you have booked for into your diary. We expect people who have registered to prioritise attendance and to make every effort to attend.If circumstances change, you must advise us as soon as possible so that the place isn’t wasted. You must also advise us if a substitute person from your organisation is attending in your place. We will be monitoring non-attendance, and may not accept future bookings from regular non-attenders.
