Learn more about the exciting world of Materials Science and Engineering and how you can pursue it as a career.

Understanding how materials behave can help us to tackle many of the most pressing global challenges we currently face - such as climate change and sustainable engineering - by rethinking how we use existing materials and developing new ones. Welcome to the world of Materials Science and Engineering and more than a week of fantastic activities and events brought to you by the Discover Materials group*. Today we are launching our infographic challenge (see: http://www.discovermaterials.uk/downloads/discover-materials-infographic-challenge.pdf for more details). To support this challenge we will release videos and content throughout the week leading up to the open day (including a live Q&amp;A session on Friday 31st July).On Wednesday 29th July there will be a live talk entitled &#x27;Nanoexplorers: Seeing Invisible Things&#x27; given by Sarah Haigh (Professor of Materials Characterisation at the University of Manchester) who will introduce the fascinating world of nanoscience.We will release a video about materials that change colour in response to temperature changes (thermochromic materials) and release a video in which recent Materials Science and Engineering graduates talk about the courses they took and what they are doing now. Our open week will culminate in a two hour live session on Tuesday 4th August which will include:<ul><li> A live Materials Science show by Marty Jopson (a regular on the BBC&#x27;s The One Show) in which he will help you discover more about the materials in your mobile phone (www.martyjopson.co.uk )</li><li> The launch of our new video to showcase the field of Materials Science and Engineering </li><li> A live Q&amp;A session with academics and graduates from UK Materials Science and Engineering departments and employers in the field </li><li> The announcement of prizes for the best infographics </li></ul>We look forward to seeing you there.*The Discover Materials group is an inter-university group whose aim is to promote Materials Science and Engineering as a discipline and the wonderful career opportunities in the area.
