The Distorted Constellations Salon is a celebratory ritual, performance and event to mark the end of this year’s Liberty Festival. Artist Nwando Ebizie is joined by Neuroscientist Professor Sophie Scott and music journalist Joe Muggs for an evening of performance, music and sensory experiences exploring science, art and ritual.The Salon is designed as a series of phased initiations, designed to bring people together through intimacy towards ecstacy!Take time to explore the installation before joining the happening – a relaxed conversation with music, space to talk, think, share and dream, exploring the theory of Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response in an intimate setting.This phase will slowly transform into a performance and celebration to mark the end of this phase of the Distorted Constellations project and Liberty 2019. What to expectYou may be touched during this performance. It is OK to say no to touch. You will be invited to lie down and relax. The food is homemade, organic, gluten free, vegetarian. It is OK to say no to food. There are a host of ASMR triggers available. It is OK to leave at any time. Let us know if you need anything.There is a sensory antechamber adjoining the main space, designed to complement the main installation. Feel free to spend time there before or after visiting the installation. The sensory space has been designed with the needs of neurodivergent people, including autistic people, in mind. There will be three access artists inside the space to help you feel at ease.This work is informed by research into ASMR, Haitian Vodou ritual, the Catholic Mass, as well as writers such as Ben Okri and Clarissa Pinkola Estes.Distorted Constellations <a href="https://wfculture19.co.uk/liberty/distorted-constellations" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Distorted Constellations</a> is part of <a href="https://wfculture19.co.uk/liberty" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Liberty</a> –The Mayor of London’s free festival celebrating the work of Deaf and disabled artists, presented in partnership with Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture 2019.An exhibition that uses sound, projections and holograms to immerse the audience in the imagined landscape of the artist’s brain.The brain becomes a fragmented labyrinth inspired by Nwando Ebizie’s rare neurological disorder, Visual Snow. Join her in a visceral new world where reality warps and bends and the cross-modal nature of perception is revealed.A landscape for transformative encounters. It calls into question how much we can trust our senses through an exploration of atypical perception.Access informationDistorted Constellations consists of a reception area, and two rooms. Room 1 is the Installation Environment (The Brain as Ritual Space). Room 2 is a breakout space you can use if you are tired, overwhelmed or just need a break.All spaces are wheelchair accessible and there are accessible toiletsThe whole exhibition is on the ground floor. Opposite the exhibition is a cafe.The main installation is a large, dark room lit by projected lights and pictures in the form of a labyrinth. There are flashing lights but no strobes. Loud music will be playing when you enter the space, and at the end of the evening.No more than twenty other people will be in the space at any one time.There are smells diffused through the space.Visual SnowVisual Snow is understood to be a rare neurological disorder. After seeing the exhibition or reading information about it, you may discover that you or somebody you know has Visual Snow.
