Distributing your work: Festivals

Distributing your work: Festivals

By LUX

Overview

A practical workshop on getting your moving image work into Festivals

Are you an artist looking to screen your moving image work at film festivals, but not sure where to begin? This workshop offers an accessible introduction to festival distribution, tailored for artists working with the moving image.

Led by LUX Distribution Director Hanan Coumal, this session will explore how festivals of different scales operate, how distribution supports artists and how you can build a festival strategy that aligns with your work.

Who is this for:

The workshop is designed for early career artists who have never shown their work at festivals or have done so fewer than two times.

What to expect:

  • Over three hours, the session includes presentations, group discussions, and practical exercises.
  • You will take part in a hands on activity to begin developing your own festival strategy.
  • There will be space to share your current project and receive feedback through group discussion.

What to Bring:

Please bring materials for one moving image project (completed or in progress). Materials may include:

  • Synopsis
  • Artist/Filmmakers bio/statement
  • Work details
  • Still images
  • Any other supporting materials

Ticket Information

General: £12

Concession: £6

Concession tickets are offered for those who might experience barriers in attending. To make participation in the event as accessible as possible, you won’t be asked for any proof or ID – we just ask that you are honest.

Here are the questions to think about when planning to purchase a concession ticket:

  • I may stress about meeting my basic needs but still regularly achieve them.
  • I may have some debt but it does not prohibit attainment of basic needs.
  • I am able to afford non-essential expenses, such as dining out or entertainment activities.
  • I have very limited expendable income.
  • I rarely buy new items.
