This essential training will equip all educational and pastoral care professionals with a clear understanding of Diversity and Inclusion issues, legislation, responsibility and practical tools. The morning will cover:
- An overview of Equality Legislation including a whistle-stop tour of all the 'Protected Characteristics'
- An overview of key guidance in diversity & inclusion
- Equip attendees with an understanding of diversity & inclusion 'confidence'
- Facilitated discussion of issues keeping people awake at night
This session is suitable for:
All staff working in HE institutions, particularly programme leaders and student support staff including academic, recruitment, admissions, welfare and student engagement.
About the trainer - Peter Quinn
Peter Quinn is an independent consultant adept in managing equality, diversity & inclusion, primarily across the education sector for over 15 years, specialising in the delivery of inclusive teaching and learning reviews, disability confidence reviews, training and consultancy.
Pete is a former Vice Chair of the National Association of Disability Practitioners and Board Member of AMOSSHE (UK Student Services Learning Organisation). He has worked with the University of Oxford, developing a nationally recognised mentoring service for students with mental illness, chronic conditions and Autism, and at the University of York, as Director of Student Support. Pete was involved in the ‘Student Mental Ill-health Task Group’ which had national impact and was arguably a catalyst for UUKs recent student mental health initiatives. In both roles, and as a consultant Pete has led on initiatives on disability, race, gender, religion and belief, Trans issues and various inter-sectional issues.
