Dive into Divine Light, a talk by Janet Gough, preceded by a tour of some of Wells Cathedral's stained glass and followed by lunch.
You are invited to join the Friends for a very special event.
Janet Gough OBE is an author, architectural historian, heritage campaigner and the former Director of Cathedrals and Church Buildings for the Church of England. On 6th October Janet will take us on a richly illustrated journey through 900 years of exceptional stained glass in England’s cathedrals based on her book Divine Light: The Stained Glass of English Cathedrals. In her talk Janet will explore s what is arguably one of England’s least-known great art collections. Using glass from England’s nearly 50 cathedrals, together with Westminster Abbey and St George’s Chapel, Windsor, an extraordinary “national collection” of stained glass, will be revealed still in situ in the buildings for which it was created.
The talk will be followed by a finger buffet lunch in the Undercroft. There will also be an opportunity for you to purchase copies of Divine Light signed by Janet Gough.
Tickets for the tour, talk and lunch are £25.00 each.
The Cathedral's Jesse Window came in fourth in a public vote to find England's Favourite Stained Glass Window run by the Association of English Cathedrals, inspired by Janet Gough’s book. The talk will be preceded by a tour of highlights of the Cathedral’s wonderful stained glass by specialist Cathedral Guides,
