Description

‘Diving’
The Glue Factory, 22 Farnell St. G4 9SE
Patrick Cole
--

Glasgow based artist Patrick Cole presents a new site specific performance; ‘Diving’.

“With all the will in the world,
Diving for dear life,
When we could be diving for pearls”

Robert Wyatt/ Elvis Costello; ‘Shipbuilding’

Diving dissects the mortality of a pearl diver living aboard a submarine, a character who exists within an abstract narrative, drawing upon experiences of depression and anxiety. He explores the perceived threat to notions of masculinity within post-industrial society.

Cole often employs humor to engage with a collective consciousness, creating a cathartic experiences.
This site specific performance will be staged in the Glue Factory’s Tank Room, a space continually permeated by damp and mold.

Diving is the result of a collaboration between Cole and local arts programmer Alex Misick.

This project would not have been possible without the in-kind support of The Glue Factory (Rob Morrison and James Farlam), Platform (Margaret McCormick and Paul Marsden) and The Centre for Contemporary Arts (Ainslie Roddick) who have all lent equipment, expertise and space. Special thanks to Isabelle Cook for her help in maling the costumes. The entrance fee will contribute to the recuperation of the costs of producing the project.
