DIY Sensor Workshop: Explore E-Textiles

Making fair and thriving neighbourhoods through arts, tech and care.Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) is an arts organisation and charity based in Bristol. Our activities include: after-school groups for young people exploring media and technology, a diverse programme of events and workshops, and regular making courses at our digital manufacturing space KWMC: The Factory.

<P>Did you know that you can make sensors with yarns and fabrics?<SPAN CLASS="Apple-converted-space"> </SPAN></P>
<P>Join <A HREF="https://www.watershed.co.uk/studio/projects/e-stitches-bristol" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">E-Stitches Bristol </A> to make a custom DIY sensor using electric fabrics and conducive threads.</P>
<P>Together we'll learn how to sew and knit sensors that sense movement and motion, then make this data visual using an Arduino. No previous experience is required!</P>

<P>There is a £5 suggested donation for the workshop (payable on the day) but you can attend for free. Knowle West Media Centre is a registered charity that <SPAN>supports people who have had the least opportunity to engage in creative activities that can change their lives and shape their communities.</SPAN> All donations all currently matches by Arts Council England through their Catalyst Evolve programme, doubling their value to us.</P>
<H5>Commons Sense Programme</H5>
<P>This event is part of a live programme to accompany KWMC's Commons Sense exhibition, which is open from May - October 2018.  Digital sensors are all around: every day things are ‘sensed’ by smart technologies. But what data can and should be<SPAN CLASS="Apple-converted-space"> </SPAN>collected? Is it used for the common good or corporate gain? Commons Sense is an interactive exhibition exploring sensors, data and ‘the commons’, made in collaboration with<SPAN CLASS="Apple-converted-space"> </SPAN>artists Becca Rose and Pete<SPAN CLASS="Apple-converted-space"> </SPAN>Bennett.</P>

<P>When you reserve a ticket for this event we will ask you to provide some information to us, which will be stored on Eventbrite. We ask for the name and e-mail address of the ticket booker so we can keep in touch with you about your booking. We ask if any of the attendees have any access or dietary needs to make sure we provide an enjoyable and accessible experience for everyone.</P>
