Dobby Loom Weaving Taster Workshop - Threads 2026
Join our resident weaving teacher Agnis during Threads Textile Festival for a short intro to weaving on a traditional Dobby Loom!
Ever wondered what it would be like to weave on a loom? Join Agnis in the Weaving Shed during the Threads Textile Festival and have a go at weaving on the gorgeous dobby looms at Sunny Bank Mills.
You will be in a small group giving plenty of opportunity to ask questions and receive 1 to 1 support throughout the workshop. You will be using stick shuttles during this workshop and will be able to able to take your own small piece of woven material away with you at the end of the session.
All materials and equipment will be provided. Spaces are very limited, so booking is essential.
Suitable for ages 14+. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
About Agnis
Agnis Smallwood has been working with us at Sunny Bank Mills for over 4 years. She is a designer, maker, researcher and educator who loves to make, create and teach. Agnis has a passion for textiles and specialises in weave. She is based in Leeds, and can always be found making, both independently and often collaboratively.

About our Threads Textile Festival
This workshop is taking place as part of Sunny Bank Mills' annual celebration of the art of textiles; featuring a series of workshops, new exhibitions, talks and Textile fair. This year’s Threads Festival will take place across the site of Sunny Bank Mills on Saturday 16th – Sunday 17th May.

About the venue
Sunny Bank Mills is an inspirational cultural destination in the heart of the local community of Farsley, Leeds. Founded in 1829, these glorious Mills are being regenerated by the sixth generation of the family owners, creating a wonderful blend of work, leisure and culture.
Course terms and booking conditions
Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date. As materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable. If we need to cancel the course for any reason your ticket will be fully refunded.
Accessibility
The venue of this workshop is within our Weaving Shed, which is accessed via a narrow flights of stairs or a wheelchair accessible lift via the Twisting Artists Studios.
There are accessible toilets on the ground floor of the venue. We will have attendants on hand to offer assistance throughout the day. If you have any queries prior to your booking, please email millie@sunnybankmills.co.uk.
