Does my data look good in this? Exploring research data management in the creative arts
This free workshop will give you a unique opportunity to meet and share experiences with others who are working to support arts researchers with data management.  It will be highly interactive and will explore the nature of 'research data' in the creative arts, its importance, and what we need for its curation and preservation to be effective. 
Research data management has become an increasingly hot topic with a number of research funders requiring data to be made openly available and maintained in the long term with a data management plan.  Jisc have also instigated a pilot project (2016-17) to develop a national research data shared service.
This workshop will focus on needs of the creative arts research community, where there are few institutional systems for managing research data, and where the terminology of ‘research data’ does not readily translate to artistic practice.

10:00 - 11:15     Stuff and data: an introduction to research data management in the creative arts - workshop facilitated by Leigh Garrett, Director, Centre for Digital Scholarship, University for the Creative Arts.  Attendees will work together to explore the nature of research data in the creative arts.
11:15 - 11:30     Comfort Break and Coffee
11:30 -11:50      Case study - Amanda Couch, Lecturer, Fine Art, University for the Creative Arts. An example of an artist’s research practice and what ‘research data’ is produced within the course of their work.
Arts data management in the real world
11:50 - 12:20     Case study: RDM at Glasgow School of Art - Dr Robyne Calvert, Mackintosh Research Fellow, and Nicola Siminson, Institutional Repository and Records Manager, Glasgow School of Art.
12:20 - 12:50     Case study: engaging arts researchers with Eprints research repositories - Dr Stephanie Meece, Scholarly Communications Manager, University of the Arts London, and Amy Robinson, Programme Manager (Digital Curation), University for the Creative Arts.

Where next for arts data?
13:50 - 14:10     RDM at Jisc - an update on current developments in research data management at Jisc by Daniela Duca, Senior Co-design Manager, Jisc.
14:10 - 14:35     Repository rodeo - five minute lightening talks about some of the different systems that are available for managing research data, including representatives from EPrints, Figshare, Arkivum, and Artivity. 
 14:35 - 15:50     Where next?  The future of research data in the creative arts - workshop facilitated by Leigh Garrett, Director, Centre for Digital Scholarship, and Carlos Silva, Programme Manager (Digital Infrastructure), University for the Creative Arts

Who should attend this workshop?
The workshop will be of interest to library and research support staff, arts researchers, research funders, repository developers, and others with an interest in archiving arts data.  Priority will be given to attendees from Higher Education institutions.
