‘Dog-Tomb’ is an experimental, site-specific performance that explores the story of the mythical Trojan queen, Hecuba. The script merges a range of ancient sources from Homer’s Iliad to Euripides&#x27; Trojan Women to look at how these ancient stories have formed a foundation for the way in which the tales of transgressive women have been told. In Ovid&#x27;s Metamorphoses and Euripides&#x27; Hecuba, the former queen reaches her end by being turned into a dog who is left to roam Greece until she dies. Her fate is a punishment for her transgressions and is a brief and dismissive conclusion to her story of suffering and grief . &#x27;Dog-Tomb&#x27; seeks to reclaim Hecuba&#x27;s transformation, to tell the story from her perspective and to thus offer a performative ritual burial for this mythical woman.The event will take place en promenade and there are no seats available. Access to the Crypt is down a steep flight of stairs. There is no toilet on site.Tickets are free, however, we welcome any donations. These will go towards covering the fees for the artists&#x27; materials and travel costs as we currently have no funding to cover these. PLEASE NOTE - The Crypt Gallery will also be open from 2pm-6pm on Saturday 9th July before the final performance where we will be displaying the set and costumes made for the piece in a small exhibition.
